BODEGAS

TYPE: Narrative Feature
GENRE: Science Fiction
STATUS: Development

LOGLINE

Bodegas is a sci-fi film, about sisters feuding over the future of their designer drug cartel, when a portal to an alternate universe is discovered.

SYNOPSIS

New York City is home to more than 10,000 bodegas, a.k.a. Delis, corner stores, or miniature Wal-Marts. They’re all different, yet the same. A bodega is a place where you can get anything, at any time- even a new world.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT

Bodegas is a dramatic comedy about loyalty and the evolution of sin. It explores a world in which one coded pill can satisfy every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved. It will have simple visual styles of the “MATRIX” and “The Godfather.”

Inclusion Statement

How do we close the gender disparity gap in entertainment? How do we see more diversity on screens?

It starts with investing in women.

My goal has always been to create space for Black, Latinx, women, and PoC in front and behind the camera. Women accounted for 4% of directors in 2018 (source).

This film is a meaningful conversation we desperately need to have. As an award-winning, Latinx filmmaker, I'm ready to be supported in this new narrative structure, to spark and lead these critical conversations.
