ARTISTIC STATEMENT
Always Enough is more than a short film, it’s a reflection of the war that happens inside so many of us, quietly. It was born out of a season where I didn’t feel whole, where I questioned my worth, my strength, and whether I could really keep going. Writing this film was not just about storytelling, it was about survival. It was about giving myself permission to feel, to break, and to heal. This film is layered with emotion, memory, and the invisible weight we often carry without anyone ever knowing. It explores mental health and identity, but even more so, it explores that silent, in-between space where you’re trying to hold it together on the outside while falling apart on the inside. I wanted to capture that complexity, the spiritual and psychological unraveling that can feel isolating but is so universally human. I created Always Enough to speak to anyone who’s ever questioned if they were too broken, too far gone, or too damaged to be loved. To anyone who has survived by performing strength when all they really wanted was to be held. I poured myself into this story, not because I had all the answers, but because I wanted to tell the truth. And I believe that truth, even when it’s messy and raw, is healing. This film doesn’t tie everything up in a neat bow, because life doesn’t either. There’s ambiguity in the ending for a reason. I wanted viewers to feel something in that uncertainty. To sit in that space between pain and hope. Because sometimes, the most powerful transformation begins in the unknown. Visually and emotionally, this piece lives in both realism and surrealism. I leaned into dreamlike visuals and haunting moments because that’s what trauma often feels like, disorienting, non-linear, intrusive. And yet, there’s beauty there, too. There’s softness in the surrender. There’s God in the silence. As a Black woman, I also wanted to challenge the narrative around who gets to tell mental health stories and how those stories are presented. We are often asked to be strong at the expense of being whole. I want this film to offer something different, something honest, intimate, and free from stereotypes. Always Enough is my offering. My way of saying: you’re not alone. You’re not crazy. You’re not too much or not enough. You’re just human. And that’s okay. I pray this film opens hearts, starts conversations, and helps someone take one more step toward healing. That’s the dream. That’s the why.
