ARTISTIC STATEMENT

Greetings and thank you for embarking on this filmmaking journey with me through the exploration of grief. I'm Jon Bregel, a filmmaker from Baltimore, Maryland, and this project holds a deeply personal significance for me. In my 35 years, the theme of "grief" has become a new and profound chapter in my life. Recent events have compelled me to confront difficult emotions, leading to a realization that facing grief head-on has tremendous healing power. My passion for filmmaking stems from the ability to open hearts and minds, and my own quest for self-discovery through the art of storytelling. My first exploration in grief through the medium of film resulted in THIS FILM where I told the story of a man who lost his wife to breast cancer. The release of the film led to some powerful conversations, one of which was with Dr. Joanne Cacciatore. Dr. Cacciatore's work introduced me to a new perspective—traumatic grief. This revelation sparked a recurring question: How do individuals facing such tragic loss find the strength to keep going? Dr. Cacciatore's book unveiled stories of resilience that deeply moved me. The courage to confront pain directly and the wisdom in these narratives have profoundly impacted my life. Through this documentary, I aspire to share the spirit and power of these stories with thousands, if not millions, fostering a collective journey of understanding and resilience. Join me in exploring the depths of human strength and the transformative power of facing grief. Together, let's open our hearts to the stories that inspire healing and build a community of support. Warm regards, Jon Bregel | www.JonathanBregel.com
