ARTISTIC STATEMENT

As an artist and as a person I find myself often preoccupied by time. The nature of it, and its passing. It moves in a constant pace and direction, yet doesn't. In so far as time exists only within our subjective consciousnesses as an agreed-upon metric to measure our own linear existence, it should move at any pace we see fit. And it seems to do so with startling - often shattering - results. The story of the larger feature film, "Saudade", is one of nostalgia and the confusing nature of love. Of individuation from and reconciliation to the major events of one's personal timeline, to understand the effects of those events and become a more complete and actualized person. The short film "Goodbye, Pop" is excerpted from one of the key moments of the protagonist Ernest Holloway's recent past (relative to the narrative). It shows him delving even further back to the formation (or lack thereof) of his own ego in the still-looming shadow of his overbearing father. Ernest must discover who HE is. This is the moment where he realizes that necessity, and why. The fact that he is unable to express those thoughts aloud at this time shows the ever-evolving nature of one's individual development; One proverbial step along the path to the self. In this way Ernest is a representation of all of us, and his father analogous to the unique and relative experiences that help or hinder the becoming of who we are.

KEY CREW

Greg Tango - DP
Greg Tango is a New York City-based director of photography. After graduating Emerson College with a BA in Cinematography and Photography, he went headfirst into in the NYC freelance filmmaking scene, eventually working his way up the G&E department ladder to gaffer. He used the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business before transitioning to his true ambition, DoP. With a strong understanding of lighting, an an emphasis on the idea that "pretty images are important, but storytelling is key”, Greg applies a unique and stylized voice to his every project. His work includes narrative, commercial, music video and documentary. This would be our 5th artistic collaboration.
