LOGLINE

A notorious forger helps a fake heiress make an honest living in the art world.

SYNOPSIS

In this film, we follow the lives of two notorious con artists whose lives become intertwined most unusually. Convicted fraudster Anna "Delvey" Sorokin and art forger Alfredo Martinez join forces. Thus begins the story of Anna and Alfredo in a journey to distinguish themselves as artists despite the odds.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT

Assisting Anna finds inspiration from the cinema verite style promulgated by Jean Rouch, in contrast to the style of expository documentary or traditional sit-down interview-style approaches. Our intent is to be honest with the audience and our subjects, and reveal the action as it unfolds on camera. We are not interested in doing re-enactments or omnipresent “Voice of God” type of narration such as we find in March of the Penguins or Fahrenheit 9/11. We prefer a participatory, active, ‘in the moment’ documentation that favors breaking the fourth wall, poeticism, and observation, as beautifully demonstrated in Paris is Burning and the Salesman. We enjoy the messiness of the documentary process and wish to allow this to seep into the storyline and elements of photography when it naturally fits with our protagonist’s goals.
