The film is an intimate remembrance of the groundbreaking artist, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, who through her art practice guides her audience to a state beyond sorrow.
SYNOPSIS
Told through a montage of voices, text and image, the film takes the audience on a journey of discovery of Cha's spiritual vision and art process and in the process to gain some insights about ourselves. Drawn from memories, artifacts and Cha's imprint on others, the narrative traces Cha's roots, rise and death, and her continuing influence as a creative pioneer who came of age during the transformative culture of 1970s. On November 4, 1982, Cha is brutally murdered in New York City at the age of 31, the same week her acclaimed experimental novel DICTEE is released. This film evokes a powerful female voice and brings to life a body of work that resists being silenced, engaging audiences and echoing over and over again through many voices.
ARTISTIC STATEMENT
For some, discovering Cha's work is akin to falling down a rabbit hole. It can be a life altering journey of self discovery, a journey home. She made art to seek and share a deeper truth of our being. Her works were gestures, guiding us to a different way of relating to our world, ourselves and one another. What she described in one of her artist statements as "an overwhelming sensation that almost resembles a return, an abandon, a salvation from the struggle of being human, to only the purest of pure," a state beyond sorrow.

Wooj Cho - Director / Producer
Cho is an artist, filmmaker, meditation practitioner and previously worked as a distribution consultant and business affairs executive in the independent film landscape. She served as head of business affairs for Arthouse Films and more recently as head of productions for Lovett Stories + Strategies, a boutique documentary production company. Her producing credits include, Twelve Disciples of Nelson Mandela, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. She is a Sundance Institute and Gotham Film & Media Institute Filmmaker Lab Fellow. For over a decade she has served on the film and special projects panels for Princess Grace Foundation and currently serves on its Arts Advisory Board.
Cindy Yoon - Editor
Yoon is a film and video editor who has worked in feature, documentary, commercial, and short form film projects. Her interest in media began in Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where she focused on media and international relations. She has edited and managed web media projects for many nonprofit organizations, including the Lawyer’s Committee for Human Rights and the Asia Society, eventually becoming the web program director for the Asia Society. Projects she has contributed to include "Winter’s Bone," Oscar nominee for Best Picture and winner of the 2010 Sundance Grand Jury Prize, and "Monogamy," winner of Best New York Narrative at theTribeca Film Festival.
JiYe Kim - Co-Producer / Animator / Associate Editor
Kim is an artist and film editor born in South Korea and currently based in New York City. She recently completed a short film titled "(1990 – 2011)," and edited the feature documentary, "Cerro Rico, Tierra Rica," directed by Juan Vallejo, which premiered at the Valdivia International Film Festival, Chile, and subsequent screenings internationally. Her works have been exhibited in a variety of venues (including her solo show "Right to Left {Under the Milky Way}" shown at the Giacobetti Paul Gallery in Brooklyn) and have screened in various film festivals, including the second Women’s Film Festival in Chennai, India, and the fifth Independent Documentary Festival in Seoul, South Korea.
