LOGLINE
Consumed by years of mounting debt, Craig and Philip descend into addiction, depression and despair. With the veneer of their picture-perfect life now stripped away, the couple must decide if the love that first brought them together is enough to save them.
SYNOPSIS
In the aftermath of the economic crisis, when millions of Americans continue to grapple with the realities of home foreclosure, unemployment, and financial setbacks, Yankee Restraint paints a portrait of one couple’s struggle. Told through the lens of Craig and Philip, a committed gay couple of 28 years, their story is a microscope on the national landscape and a unique twist on a pervasive nationwide issue.
Both successful artists in their own right, Craig and Philip had been living the American dream -- blissfully entwined in that old Texas adage: bigger is better. But after losing their home and their jobs in 2008, they found themselves caught in a downward spiral of codependency, addiction, and depression. Our cameras enter their lives at a time when they are attempting to pick up the pieces and rebuild the life and love they once knew. Ultimately, their story is one of hope, of two individuals sustaining the most enduring relationship of their lives and overcoming their greatest obstacle yet.
