LOGLINE

Mr. Lapidus tells the story of a Morris Lapidus “The Architect of Joy”, who’s innovative designs were influencing the architecture industry around the world until this day.

SYNOPSIS

Lapidus was an American architect who's known for designing the Post World War II unique luxury hotels and commercial spaces in Miami, NY, and many other countries around the world. But he lived a bitter-sweet life as while he was extremely successful, the Architecture industry never recognized his work. The film tells his life story and his battles, up to the moment that when he did get recognition - it was too late.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT

As Lapidus’ work is very unique, the visual approach of the film is to compliment the work, emphasize unique symbols and techniques the architect used in his work, in a subtle and extremely elegant way. The documentary will capture Lapidus’s story based on experts and close people who knew him, as well as his work in Miami Beach and around the world. As Lapidus went through ups and downs in his career, the cinematography of the film will capture his creations in a way that they will become a character in the film, projecting complexities and emotions.

Omer BarSadeh - Director/Producer

Vision Movies, LLC is creating impactful branding and marketing video campaigns that generate millions of impressions and translate to millions of dollars in sales. Some of the brands the company works with are Amazon, Revlon, and Absolut. With over 1,000 commercials, Internet video campaigns, and television commercials, Vision Movies, LLC has helped hundreds of businesses in and out of the US expand and become extremely successful and profitable. Omer BarSadeh is now the authority on how to create successful videos for small and growing businesses. Over his career, he has produced nearly 10,000 hours of programming, yielding 120 million total audience impressions.

Deborah Desilets - Producer / Writer

Deborah DeSilets is an artist, fashion designer, a Florida registered architect, who has worked in Miami for 30 years. DeSilets moved from Tallahassee, Florida to work with Arquitectonica, where she met Morris Lapidus. After their meeting, DeSilets became the protege of Morris Lapidus working as his last collaborator until the end of his fascinating career. She was the curator and associate involved in his receiving the Smithsonian National Design Award as an American Original. DeSilets has written four books on Morris Lapidus and under the brand the Morris Lapidus TM and has worked diligently to promote the legacy of Lapidus through product design, furniture design, and lectures.  In 2022, The Morris Lapidus Foundation was to undertake the teaching of his Miami-inspired works to others and reposting the legacy of Morris Lapidus, a man whom it was said, ”would have died a martyr if had not lived long enough to be a hero”. Desilets has saved his career from obscurity, while single-handedly spreading his teachings, and this has been a large part of her 30-year career in Miami.

Deborah Desilets is the holder of the Lapidus archives. She has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally on his work.
