LOGLINE

A documentary film to explore the inequities that exist between women's and men's healthcare because of traditional biases and practices.

SYNOPSIS

Although women and men are completely different genetically, almost all the healthcare we receive is based solely on research done on men. Because of this inequity, women die every single day, worldwide. Ms. Diagnosed will explore why the inequality exists, why it persists, and how it can change.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT

The film will be directed and produced by the Emmy Award winning director of HBO’s “Autism: The Musical,” Tricia Regan. Ms. Regan built her reputation by taking difficult topics and making them accessible and entertaining. Her very first documentary, A Leap of Faith, tackled integration in war torn Belfast in the final year of the Troubles. After its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, critics called the film “a thrilling story about how the world can change” and that it was “the most moving documentary at Sundance.” Another film Ms. Regan directed, Soldiers Pay, about the effects of PTSD on Iraq War veterans, played theatrically nationwide, was featured internationally in film festivals, and was televised on IFC. Tough subject matter, with complicated political and often medical/scientific landscapes, provides the springboard for Ms. Regan’s films, delivering an emotional journey that moves, educates and inspires. Ms. Regan’s goals are threefold – to create a call to action that inspires viewers to demand equality in medicine, to make sure women are fully informed not only about heart disease, but about the unique ways their bodies respond differently than men’s do to disease, and to empower women to take control of their own health.
